Monero Swap: what actually happens, and how long it takes

Monero routes behave differently from everything else because the chain is opaque by design. When you swap into XMR, the provider buys Monero and sends it to the address you gave; when you swap out, the provider receives a transaction it cannot trace back to you and waits for its confirmation target before releasing the other side.

That confirmation target is why XMR legs feel slow. Ten Monero confirmations at roughly two minutes each is twenty minutes on its own, before the other chain is considered. On BTC↔XMR the two waits stack, which is where the twenty-to-forty-minute range on our pair pages comes from.

Addresses are the other place people trip. Monero has standard addresses and subaddresses, both valid destinations, and no memo or destination tag of any kind. If something you were given looks like a tag, it belongs to a different chain and does not apply here.

Minimums on Monero routes are usually higher than on other pairs, because the payout transaction is comparatively large. Check the limit the widget shows for your pair before you commit funds.
